Galerie Grand Siècle is going to participate in Art Taipei 2017 with a joint exhibition of WANG Fu-Tung, LIU Yi-Lan, and CHANG Teng-Yuan at Booth E05, Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1. All of them have been gushing forth creative energies to form individual life experience, philosophy and perception into image. Their sharp senses and personal artistic styles have annotated the earthly life and future society. Galerie Grand Siècle cordially welcomes your visit.
When inspecting contemporary arts, creation is closely tied up with life. Ordinariness is the inspiration, and art nourishes minds. Compared with the poet Charles Pierre Baudelaire from the Western culture, he created city image from its portraiture with poetry; this ground-breaking initiation was considered significant literary innovation, and consolidated his leading position of that time. In this regard, the purpose of the exhibition is to tackle the question of how to capture art appreciation experience from social reality and practical life, so as to illuminate the role that life and environment plays in terms of art creation.
The exhibiting artist WANG Fu-Tung, after the turbulence in life, was determined to seclude in countryside, staying devoted to art creation. He has diverse and intense artistic styles. He transforms life experience into creative energies on canvas in an untrimmed manner. By doing so, he again and again reiterates the experiences of strenuous life challenges and the genuine attitude toward art. LIU Yi-Lan’s artworks carry her life experience. She paints her observation of life and refines a unique interpretation of the multitude of humanity—the bright and dark sides, attributed to her tender love and pursuit of beauty. The painted world reciprocates sincerity and honesty, warm and moving. The value of things was sublimated to the spirit of aesthetics. She used a distinctive language to record the vicissitudes of woman status in Taiwanese society. As to the artist CHANG Teng-Yuan, he projects his imagination and expectation for the future onto the artworks. The figure of Parrot Man is meant to reflect the technological advances, social conditions as well as the changes in the environment; moreover, its existence challenges and poses questions to contemporary life, social values, living status and future society. During the creating process of the image, “social reality” was transposed into “life value”, and “material substance” was substituted by “spiritual energy.” This exhibition is aimed to comprehensively present how the artists represent and interpret the different aspects, lights and shades, of life.
LIU Yi-Lan’s works are consecutively collected by art institutions such as National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and Art Bank of Ministry of Culture, Taiwan. Her recent work, ‘Red Spider Lily’, is a commissioned work for the director YANG Ya-Che’s latest movie The Bold, The Corrupt, and the Beautiful, the just announced opening film of 2017 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. The crossover between art and film is highly anticipated. WANG Fu-Tung’s contribution to Taiwanese art is duly recognized. He was the chief editor of Lion Art monthly magazine (Hsiung Shih Art Monthly, The Good Earth Magazine, and quarterly magazine ACT (Art Critique of Taiwan) organized by Tainan National University of the Art and many others. His works were collected by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Hong-Gah Museum, etc. CHANG Teng-Yuan’s works has continuously exhibited in solo and group shows across the world including London, New York, Cologne, Osaka, Tokyo, Taipei and China. Several works of his were collected by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and Art Bank of Ministry of Culture, Taiwan.
