Galerie Grand Siècle is going to present the solo exhibition POST-WE of artist CHANG Teng-Yuan from November 4th to December 18th in 2016. The opening party will be launched at 6pm on November 4th. In 2015, CHANG’s exhibition at ART.FAIR has attracted favorable attention and described as “brilliant” and “amusing” from European media; this year so far he has been sought to exhibit overseas such as solo and group exhibitions at MOCA Yinchuan, Tokyo Arts Gallery and START ART FAIR co-organized by Saatchi Gallery. Currently, his animation installations are showcased in Taipei Biennial at Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Undeniably, the development of his career as an artist of versatility is placed much value for he illustrates the process of human reflection through the imagination of future scenarios in painting and animation installation. The common question raised by his artworks is “How will humans enter the next generation?”
Humorous connotation in contemporary phenomena is always found in CHANG’s works. In this solo exhibition, the concern of imaginative future has been elevated to the field of Anthropocene as a result of his intense interest in biology and science. The latest series indicates industrial revolution and future technology in which technologies change the world. “Human Connectome Project” is a project initiated by National Institutes of Health of United States in 2014 to explore brain connectivity; brain-computer interfaces developed by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency of United States in 2016 showed thought-controlled computer which foretells the implantation of a receiver into a human brain as a unit of a large network of self-internet connection. In the future, it is believed that human distance barriers will be eliminated; the solo exhibition proposes an assumption “when seven billion human brains multi-connect to form a super brain, the distinction between “I” and “We” fades away and the concept of “I” and “We” are no longer distinguishable from each other. The entire earth will become a super brain floated in the cosmos.” In face of the unknown future, CHANG Teng-Yuan brings up the essential right to live from the point of freedom and philosophical thinking to expand the dimension of viewer’s imagination.
CHANG Teng-Yuan has been awarded and received project-based grants several times, having solo and joint exhibitions in London, New York, Cologne, Osaka, Tokyo and Taipei. In 2014, he realized artist residency program of ISCP New York. This year he just finished the joint exhibition at MOCA Yinchuan in China, the invited curatorial project in START ART FAIR and the solo exhibition in Tokyo Arts Gallery. Currently, his works are presented in “Taipei Biennial 2016: A New Lexicon for the Biennial” at Taipei Fine Arts Museum. This time, the solo exhibition POST WE of CHANG Teng-Yuan will be a major opening among his past exhibitions. Galerie Grand Siècle and CHANG Teng-Yuan will launch a cooperative project with an energetic craft beer brand, Landmark, to show a selected series of painting together with limited editioned craft beer designed by him during November 11th to 15th (including ART TAIPEI period) at Landmark Breeze XIN YI branch; moreover, following the presentation, an artist sharing will be held.
