1966年出生,現任國立高雄師範大學美術系副教授,曾任高雄市現代畫學會理事長,並籌畫第一次高雄藝術博覽會,曾獲美國奧克拉荷馬市Norick藝術中心新人獎,並入選美國大學名人錄,曾於台灣、澳洲兩地舉辦多次展覽,作品在國際上多獲藝術機構收藏。

LEE, Chin-Ming, born in 1966, is now an associate professor of Kaohsiung Normal University Fine Art Department. LEE had been the chairperson of Modern Art Association of Kaohsiung, holding the 1st ART KAOHSIUNG. LEE was awarded the horizon prize of Norick Art Center in Oklahoma City of U.S., and was once selected in the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. He has held several exhibitions in Taiwan and Australia, and his paintings are favored by art constitutions and private collection internationally

新苑藝術將於2017年7月14日至8月5日,展出藝術家李錦明個展《SO IT GOES》,開幕時間訂為7月14日晚間六點。李錦明擅長以強烈色彩結合類表現主義筆法展現自我嘲諷與黑色幽默。繪畫作品多取材自日常生活經驗結合歷史事件的摹擬。以詼諧的意象、繽紛豐富的色彩堆疊,創造出層次分明的時空想像。李錦明稱其創作風格為「卑屈表現主義」(Abject Expressionism),是一種透過面對、接受、甚至以此為樂的態度,品嚐自身卑屈歷史所帶來的況味。作品在表現豐沛生命力的同時,也影射人類在面對自身處境劣勢之際的調適能力與崇高精神。
此次個展《SO IT GOES》,取自馮內果(Kurt Vonnegut)在其小說「第5號屠宰場」不斷出現的這句話「So it goes」。意味著不論身陷何種處境,皆能一笑置之,以略帶無奈卻又戲謔的態度面對。李錦明「透過戰爭轟炸場景的特殊觀點、俯仰交錯的構成,絢麗色彩與象徵性語彙,嘗試營造一種不對勁又偽輕鬆的視覺經驗,藉以述說無法參與且不對等的權力關係與被剝奪的話語權 (right of discourse)。」。作品中,李錦明以美國軍力的展現,連結自身與父親共同的生命經驗,探討當強權迫近,我們是否還能選擇自身處境? 對未來是否有抱持樂觀的權利?
李錦明現任高雄師範大學美術系副教授,曾任高雄市現代畫學會理事長並籌畫第一次高雄藝術博覽會。美國奧克拉荷馬大學美術碩士,2002年於澳洲臥龍岡大學取得創作藝術博士學位。曾入選美國大學名人錄,並獲美國奧克拉荷馬市Norick藝術中心新人獎。1993年於美國奧克拉荷馬市Norick藝術中心舉辦首次個展後,在台灣、澳洲兩地舉辦多次展覽,如澳洲「Blue Tack畫廊」、「FCA畫廊」,作品在國際上受到藝術機構青睞與私人收藏,2010年作品「生」典藏於高雄市立美術館。

From July 14th to August 5th in 2017, Galerie Grand Siècle is going to present the solo exhibition of artist LEE Chin-Ming -《SO IT GOES》. The opening will be held on July 14th at 6 pm. LEE Chin-Ming is expert in showing self-deprecating and black comedy with intense color and Expressionism-like strokes. In his paintings, he often refers to daily-life experience, combining with the imitation of historical incident. By means of humorous image and layers of vivid colors, the artist creates a structured imagination of time and space. LEE named his style as “Abject Expressionism”, a state of mind in which people appreciate their abject history in a confronting, embracing, and even enjoying attitude. His artworks show prosperous vitality, meanwhile suggesting the adapting ability and noble spirit of human being when facing with disadvantages.
The title of LEE’s solo exhibition ,《SO IT GOES》, was named from Kurt Vonnegut’s novel, “Slaughterhouse - Five”, in which the words “So it goes ”were repeated again and again. This means that whatever circumstances we are in, we are able to laugh it off, facing it with a somewhat helpless but facetious attitude. “Through distinctive spectacles of bombing scenes in wartime, composition of high and low angles interlocked, magnificent colors, and symbolic signs, I attempt to create an absurd yet light-hearted graphic experience, describing the unequal power relations, the deprived participation and right of discourse.” In his works, LEE connects the action of American forces with the shared life experience of his father and himself. LEE tried to discuss that under the threat of great power, can we make up our decisions voluntarily? Do we still have the right to stay positive for the future?
LEE Chin-Ming is the associate professor of Fine Arts Department in National Kaohsiung Normal University, and once served as the chairman of the Modern Art Association of Kaohsiung.
Finished his MFA in the University of Oklahoma of U.S., and obtained his Ph.D. degree in the University of Wollongong of Australia in 2002, LEE was once selected in the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, and was awarded the horizon prize of Norick Art Center in Oklahoma City of U.S. After his first solo exhibition in Norick Art Center in 1993, he held several exhibitions in Taiwan and Australia, such as the Blue Tack Gallery and the FCA Gallery in Australia. LEE’s paintings are favored by art constitutions and private collection internationally. In 2010. his work “Birth”was collected by the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts.

展覽標題 So it goes,中文可解讀成「就是這樣」,源自馮內果 Kurt Vonnegut 的小說「第5號屠宰場」當中不斷重複出現的關鍵句。
主人翁的父親在與朋友出外打獵時遭同伴誤殺;so it goes。
一位美國大兵因膽小而被槍決;so it goes。
一棵金錢樹引發人們互相殘殺,屍體倒在樹下,成為滋養異常的肥料;so it goes 。
二戰末期的一個夜晚,英美轟炸機於德勒斯登奪走135,000條無辜人命;so it goes 。
馮內果透過這句聳肩無奈又略帶戲謔的話語,諷刺強權在戰爭行為中草菅人命的冷血濫殺,對比於弱勢者在面對死亡的錯愕麻木與無力回天。
在作品中,我選擇展現美國軍力作為「父親」(歷經二次大戰美軍對台灣的轟炸)與「我」(90年代在美國留學時看航空展的經驗)之間的連結。創作者試圖探討在面對強權的當下,我們的處境是否有選擇的可能?我對未來可有樂觀的權利
畫面透過戰爭轟炸場景中的特殊觀點、視角俯仰交錯的構成,絢麗色彩與象徵性語彙,我嘗試營造一種荒誕奇詭、不對勁又偽輕鬆的視覺經驗,藉以表述弱勢者無法參與且不對等的權力關係與被剝奪的話語權。最終,當我越努力描繪這個嚴肅的議題時,作品就越呈現一種黑色幽默; so it goes……
So it goes,不是嗎?
So it goes
The exhibition is named “So it goes,” whose Chinese interpretation could be “就是這樣”.
It is the key sentence, constantly occurred in Kurt Vonnegut’s novel, Slaughterhouse-Five.
In the novel, when father of the protagonist is mistakenly killed by his friend while hunting together, the author writes “so it goes.”
When an American soldier is shot for his cowardice, “so it goes.”
When people kill each other for a money tree, and their corpses strewn under the tree, turning into abnormally nutritious fertilizer, “so it goes.”
One night during late World War II, British and American bombers took 135,000 lives in Dresdon, “so it goes.”
Through this helpless, bantering sentence, Vonnegut ironizes the great power’s bloodless massacre in wars, contrasting the weak power’s numb, impotent attitude toward death.
In my works, I choose the spectacle of American force to represent the bonds between my father, who experienced America’s bombing attack to Taiwan in WWII, and me, who visited air shows while studying in America. I try to probe into the questions: Is it possible for us to choose under the threat of strong power? Do I have the right to stay optimistic for the future?
Through distinctive spectacles of bombing scenes in wartime, composition of high and low angles interlocked, magnificent colors, and symbolic signs, I attempt to construct a fishy, as-if-light-hearted graphic vision, further describing the absent, unequal authority relations and the deprived discourse right. And the more I want to portray this serious issue, the more my works presents a sense of black humor. So it goes…
