Intact Love
Happy Birthday
A Girl with Green Sweater
Shame of Growth
I and the Children I Had
Self-testament
Where is Mom?
An Old Family Portrait
They Are Slept
The Flutist
The Kiss
A Moment Realizing Breath
They Are Stayed
The Loneliness After Cruel
Here is Mom.
A Fleeting Moment to Share
A Woman with Breast
As if They Were Father and Son
Yesterday, When I Was Alive
Wedding
Invisible Man

Galerie Grand Siècle is going to present a solo exhibition of artist CHIANG Pei-Shan during December 29th, 2017 to January 26th, 2018. The opening will be launched at 6 pm on December 29th. CHIANG is a Mexico-based Taiwanese artist, and her paintings expresses the concern on diverse human behaviors and relationships between human beings, combing the contradictory complex of life experiences. CHIANG sees herself as “feeling collector”, collecting those sealed and hard-to-facing emotions, calling the dark side in human subconscious with her “dark artistic perception.” CHIANG Pei-Shan provides spectators for different scenes of self-dark side through her painting, telling people that facing your true self is the important way to reform and discover your inner sensibility; under layered covers, emotions are chain reactions and the internal dark side needed to be understood in many ways.
The title of CHIANG Pei-Shan’s solo exhibition Desprendiéndome pieles abras/zadas is from Spanish, which means tearing and exposing the burnt and hidden skin. She tries to figure out the complicated situation in human relationships, especially in family relations. How does the past experience distract the reality and reappear in the form of nightmare? Coming from the past, it reflects people’ true self in multiple aspects, and reform a new inner self through different ways including time, space, feeling, emotion, memory, and reflection. Desprendiéndome pieles abras/zadas expresses the contradictory complex: “what we hold and love intensely is exactly what hurts and burns us the most.” Every feeling has two-sides, and it is what guides our motions but can’t be explained. To her, there is nothing can be abandoned, every emotion matters.
CHIANG Pei-Shan was born in Taiwan in 1983, received a bachelor degree in Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, as well as a Master Degree in Department of Psychology, Fu Jen Catholic University. She has started the road as an artist since she was 28 years old, and then lives and works in Mexico now. To her, Art is the medium expressing her obsession toward various experiences of life; it is not only a way to understand, but to feel the world — unfolding a space which can rest the past affections in peace, and re- experience those important life senses. Her artworks was exhibited in Senado de la República, Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo, Edificio FEMSA del Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Santa Fe, and Edificio FEMSA del Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Santa Fe. She was also selected in FLAMANTES, a Spanish young artist selections.

The title of my solo exhibition Desprendiéndome pieles abras/zadas is from Spanish, which means tearing and exposing the burnt and hidden skin, and it presents the very core of my artworks: “what we hold and love intensely is exactly what hurts and burns us the most.”All emotions have the opposites, and the contradictory complex is what I meant to present in this solo exhibition, that truly guiding the motions but can’t be explained. To me, there is nothing can be abandoned, every emotion matters.I see myself as a“feeling collector”, collecting those sealed and hard-to-face emotions, calling the dark side in human subconscious, and it is what I want to pay attention. The series points out the complicated human relationship from all kinds of human behaviors, especially from family ties. How does the past experience pass through the time, connect with the reality, and re-appear with the appearance of pain? It reflects the true feeling inside from different angles, and then becomes a new “ego” by multiple means including time, space, sense, memory, and reflection. From the psychology point of view, it is an unintentional response to the calling of so-called “dark side. The “dark side” doesn’t mean negative; instead, the “dark side” is ignored deliberately because of its strongly intense power frighten people, and it is the same power arousing a horrified as well as stunned sense of beauty. I want to tell people that it is truly hard to face our own “dark side”, but it is the only way to recover. Through the sensitive self-discovering process, we will finally realize that none of our heart will always be the dark side.Every painting is a scene from different story where the author can create a character to perform and produce the pain, and afterward, those characters would live a new story by themselves. By the process, artist interprets his/her own life experiences again and again.I am aiming to create a simulated and vivid world where I can live in while I am drawing. The demarcation line is my canvas. It continuously reminds me that I am not only live in the world I create but also the real world outside. There are two versions of myself—one is me living in the painting and the other is me drawing on the canvas. They are divided by the canvas, which provides the perfect distance to keep the surge emotions in the canvas world from overwhelming me in real world.Besides understanding people, the other purpose of my art creation is to create a world settling and evolving some old memories and emotions, and also find a new interpretation. To me, it is an important process proving my existence. I keep finding new ways to sense the world, and that’s how I live my life. All feelings are part of existence. I exist in the world as long as I can feel things. The artworks are my notes recording how the past experiences detach from old patterns and redefine new patterns. No matter to whom, audiences or creators, art is supposed to be an experience instead of a purpose. Artists only can accomplish art by listening and responding audiences’ feelings. CHIANG Pei-Shan
